The organising committee of the International Festival of Athletics Coaching Conference have confirmed leading professional Dr Roger Jackson as one of the main keynote speakers at this years IFAC Conference.
Dr. Jackson OC, PhD, DSc was the founding CEO of 'Own The Podium 2010', the national program to prepare Canadian athletes for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Canadian athletes won 14 gold medals at these winter Games, more than any other country has ever won, and achieved their best-ever performance at the Paralympic Winter Games. He is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Calgary, having previously been the Dean of Physical Education (1978-88) and then Founding Director of the university Sport Medicine Centre (1988-2004).
Dr Jackson has consulted extensively with cities bidding for or organizing the Olympic winter and summer games, including the bids for Calgary, Cape Town, London and Tokyo. He has served on a number of IOC Commissions including those to evaluate bidding cities or to advise Organising Committees. He has been elected the President of the Canadian Olympic Association on three occasions, the Chairman of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, Canada’s anti-doping agency. For ten years, he was a leader of the Calgary Olympic Winter Games bid and organising committees, and for 15 years, a member of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Sports Organisation with primary responsibilities relating to the staging of four Pan American Games. Dr. Jackson represented Canada at three summer Olympic Games, beginning with Tokyo (1964) where he won a gold medal in rowing (pair oars).
Dr. Jackson is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a recipient of both the IOC and Canadian Olympic Orders, a recipient of the Lou Marsh trophy as Canada’s outstanding athlete, and twice elected as a member of the Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, as an athlete and as a builder.
